Puccini's TOSCA

Tosca features some of Puccini’s most gorgeous music, as it chronicles a fateful evening for singer Floria Tosca, her lover Mario Cavaradossi, and the corrupt Baron Scarpia, the lecherous chief of police. Incidentally, Tosca was the first opera in which I had a principal role many moons ago.

If you’re new to opera, Tosca is definitely one that should be on your list of ones to watch. Calgary Opera has shows on October 16, October 18 and October 24.

David Esteban as Mario Cavaradossi
Boaz Daniel as Baron Scarpia

Handel’s Messiah is one of my favourite works to perform. It’s one of those works that I would make time to be available for. And while I would love to be performing Messiah as a featured soloist, singing in the chorus is incredible satisfying.

So grateful to Pro Coro Canada for inviting me to be a part of the contingent that will sing Messiah with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, this season!

Verdi's OTELLO

  • Calgary, Alberta Canada (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Verdi’s adaptation of a Shakespearean tragedy follows the Moorish general Otello, whose mind is poisoned by his malicious ensign, Iago, into believe his innocent wife, Desdemona, is unfaithful. Otello is the latest Verdi opera that I have had the good fortune to be involved, following La traviata, Rigoletto, Macbeth, and Nabucco.

I am especially looking forward to sharing this stage with baritone Iain MacNeil, with whom I had the good fortune of spending five weeks in Austria at the prestigious Franz-Schubert-Institut. I’m really excited to see what Iain brings to the pivotal role of Iago for this production.

Verdi’s OTELLO
Conducted by Jonathan Brandani
Featuring Marcelo Puente as Otello
Anna Pompeeva as Desdemona
Iain MacNeil as Iago
Directed by Elizabeth Stepkowski Tarhan
